MAX MALLENDER's painting style is impetuous, spontaneous and deliberately imperfect. Whether large or small formats - his works exude serenity, impartiality and generosity.

Similar to Cy Twombly, Mallender uses "a few blobs and a few splashes and a pencil stroke here and there" (Donald Judd after a visit to a Cy Twombly exhibition at the Leo Castelli Gallery, New York) and achieves an emotional quality through a supposed lack of intention, which tells of lost innocence, for example. His plant portraits in particular describe the gap between lost paradise and the rough pavement of the big cities somewhere on Earth.
